ABOUT US

The Excellence in Care Framework provides a national and international benchmark that an establishment can use to start their journey of continuous improvement.  It both recognises and celebrates Excellence in Care.

This is an outcome-based framework, demonstrating an establishment’s commitment to improving and sustaining improvements in the quality of care and service user experience.

An EiC Accreditation, following a successful assessment is awarded for a three-year period.  After each assessment a Self-Reflection Plan is developed based on areas for improvement, subsequently, an annual review ensures an establishment continues to make progress and improvements where they are identified/required.

The EiC Framework recognises ‘excellence’, which means that any establishment providing care will need to provide evidence not only in relation to what they do, but how they are doing it and the impact this has on all service users.

As the requirements of each element are explored, current areas of good practice for ‘Excellence in Care’ will be identified as well as highlight areas for further improvement.

THE PROCESS

When reviewing your service against the EiC Framework establishments should consider the following questions:

  • What are we currently doing?
  • How well are we doing it?
  • What do we need to do to improve it?
  • What does excellent practice look like and have we defined it?
  • How can we work towards and sustain excellence?
  • Who needs to do what, by when and what resources do we need?
  • What can we show and tell the Assessor as part of any initial benchmark, Assessment or Review?

The EiC Assessor will use interviews as the focus for evidence collection and, as such, this Assessment will be planned to include a selection of people including leaders, managers, employees, people using the services and other stakeholders.  Please refer to the Glossary of Key Terms at the end of this document for reference.  The Assessment process may include observations, one-to-one interviews, group interviews, telephone interviews and/or focus group meetings.
